Jared Fitzgerald ’12 - Nursing - Boone, NC

New programs, new opportunities

December 21, 2011

When Jared Fitzgerald learned that Appalachian’s nursing program had received approval, he immediately submitted his application. Originally a pre-professional biology major with his eye on medical school, Jared was ready to join the new nursing program from the minute he heard it might be an option.

"I heard a rumor of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the works and began calling the office almost every week,” says Jared. “When I received the letter that said I was accepted into the nursing program, I was very excited. Being part of the long-awaited nursing program was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”

Jared and his wife are both Appalachian students. They initially made the 45-mile drive from their home in Morganton to attend classes, but they have now relocated along with their two children and put down roots in Boone. “With low crime, great schools and beautiful surroundings, Appalachian is in one of the best areas in the state,” Jared said.
